I exhausted the needlework books in the UMW library in about one hour. Though there was one unexpected find. A book published in 1859. American stitchers were already into some "modern" looking things by then. Canvaswork was starting to come into play. Of course, the Berlin work was huge popular. And quilts were starting to be appreciated as more than just a frugal way to deal with leftover fabric.
