Off the Drugs

I'm off the drugs and my mind is clear today. what a relief. The pain level has dropped considerably. Now I just need to not run into anything or drop anything on my foot. Or...

have my 15 lb cat jump on it!

There's currently a poem on my fridge about what'll happen to the cat if he does something so heinous.

Of course all I can see is how messy the house is getting. What is with people who can never put anything away!!! AAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!

so off to do a little web searching for a new needlework stand. Then time for some stitching finally.

Foot Surgery

Had my minor foot surgery on Monday.
Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.

Glad someone invented drugs for this kind of thing.

Time to go get horizontal again.

Can't even stitch yet. Percocet won't let me concentrate.

Day Four of That Beach Diet

Okay. I'm surviving. But the ice cream in the freezer is singing me a siren song. Must resist...

All the talk about floor stands on RCTN has me thinking maybe it's time to buy a new one. Do I really need one? LOL What a stupid question.

Maybe just some more scroll rods???

Wonder what DH wants to do today? :->

Day Two of That Beach Diet

Found a good place for my questions about doing this diet/lifestyle change. Day Two and I've got a headache again. Just kind of low level. Nothing I'd bother to take medication for. Maybe I'll go make an espresso. Some extra caffeine might help.

Off to continue folding laundry. Why can't I ever seem to catch up on this chore?

And do a little stitching before dinner.
Which will be flank steak, salad, and maybe some roasted garbanzo beans!

That Beach Diet

It is time to make some changes. Today was a low carb kind of day. My first. I'm feeling kind of headachy. And a little bit grumpy. Good thing I'm not trying this while premenstrual.

But I'm not hungry.

So good bye, sugar. Good bye, white flour. It's been nice knowing you. But you haven't done me any favors. Ciao, wine. At least for now.

What really annoyed me was noticing all the opportunities to purchase food on my way to the dry cleaners. Burger King, vending machines with sodas, ice cream, and chips. Then I got stuck standing right beside the bubble gum machines filled with candy. I don't even normally crave sweets, but those stupid jelly things looked delicious.

I need some focus here. Food is good as fuel for the body. But not as a source of comfort. Get out and walk more. Try meditation. Go to a yoga class. Take kids with me to the gym and lift weights. Take a hike.

It's not losing the weight that's the issue. It's keeping it off.
Hmmm. This oughta be fun. Right. Ya.

Catching Up On Reading

Yesterday I was catching up on some reading, among other things the January 11th issue of the New York Times Sunday magazine. It had an interesting article on blogging, but of course the focus is on teenagers and teenage angst driven prose.

My daughter has had one blog so long, that I know about it, and read it occasionally. (She knows.)Gives me a new perspective on her life. Though there is little we don't talk about already, sometimes her view point, as expressed for her friends, is extremely different from what we hear at the dinner table.

If I had access to blogging when I was a teenager, I would have spent hours typing.

Monday is minor foot surgery day for me. Enforced sit and stitch time. I've had to pass up a few fun activities for the following weekend, so maybe I should try to fit in a LNS shopping spree to balance things out karma wise...

I've put off doing my newsletter all week. Now I need to do the whole thing today. Including phone calls to double check info.

Why do I do this?

Because I can, I guess.

There is always something more interesting to do than work. Especially the kind of work you don't get paid for. LOL

My baby turned 15 yesterday. We had a low-key kind of day. I didn't bug him once about homework or cleaning his room - how's that for a teenage present?

For birthdays at our house, I take requests. You tell me your dream meal for that day, and I'll make it. DS decided to be a little bit tough on me, so we broke with tradition and went out.

He wanted to try sushi and various Asian style wrapped things. I knew about a lovely Asian restaurant with oodles of atmosphere. The meal was divine. And now I've got sushi addicts on my hands. Good thing I learned how to make it from a Japanese friend.

For his cake - another request - he wanted an orange cake that resembled a Creamsicle. Thanks to I managed to find out how to make a topping that's heavy on the dairy side. And voila! a cake that tastes like an ice cream confection.

All in all, a satisfying day.

Now back to the real world. Bills to be paid. Dishes to be washed. Dust to be moved around...

Happy Valentine's Day

Many people seem to have problems with this day. They feel they are being coerced into a faux celebration of something that needs to organic. WELL, to hell with that! I say anything that reminds people to tell other people that they love them, is a good thing.

That doesn't mean one needs to buy into the Hallmark/hearts/flowers/jewelry routine. Simply letting someone know that you care is bound to improve your relationships.

Last Night

Last night it was Braziliian work at my EGA meeting. I found that I need to practice a lot more on buillions. Somehow I'm not surprised by that. Oh, and I hate threading rayon threads. Argh. "Slippery little buggers."

So I did not accomplish much. Did pick up an over one brooch by Of Female Worth that I had started maybe 2 years ago. Some days I have no trouble seeing small work, other days I think it's time for bifocals. I guess it depends on how tired I am or something.

My Brain has Turned to Pea Soup

I swear I'm in a fog today.

But I did receive the black Ultra Suede (registered trademark, etc. etc.) in the mail on Monday, so today I used a piece of it to finish off the inside of my scissor case. I would love to post a pic, but hubby has run off with our digital camera. Took it to work and who knows when I'll see it again.

Was going to continue stitching after that finish, but my lethargy overcame me, and asleep I fell.

Dragged myself off the couch 45 minutes later and found I needed one vital ingredient for dinner, which necessitated a quick trip to the grocery.

Even the fresh air didn't revive me. I am in a gof, I mean, fog.

I Wanna Shoop Baby Shoop

I wasted an inordinate amount of time yesterday on what should have been a simple task. The stereo system DH and I had picked out for DS's birthday was not in stock anywhere. Everyone had one on the shelves, but none in boxes. Lost time driving and searching. Through the usage of modern technology, I was talking to DH whilst shopping and he was working the problem on the 'net. He thought he'd found a good deal online and they could guarentee delivery by Saturday. I started questioning him intensely about why that price was $20 less than anywhere else we'd seen. Turns out not to be the exact same model. Then in a stroke of brilliance, he remembered a $20 coupon we had for a certain store. And we bought a more expensive product, but the coupon made it equal. Now if he could have thought of that sooner, I might have not have nearly blown a gasket at Best Buy while waiting for someone to assist me. Ah, shoot. I should've thought of it myself.

Tonight is a ladies only function. We are supposed to bring a favorite Valentine's day item - all discreetly wrapped in the same type bag. Then guess who brought what. DH suggested ropes and mayo. What a clown. Just for that some people might find out about his Scooby Doo boxers...

Just Checking In

I can't believe of all the stitching blogs that I check, that only 1 had a new post since Friday.
I guess everyone had a busy weekend. Me included.

I'm off to wrap and mail packages. One to SIL who is having back surgery this week in Texas. One to return something we didn't order, and fortunately they pay for return shipping. And one late present. Need to go shopping - DH and I picked out a new stereo for DS's birthday this weekend, but couldn't buy it with him there.

I did have a fine time shopping by myself whilst DH and kids went shopping for me. Hubby already bought my present and gave it to me. He just can't resist doing that. I now own some serious stones set in white gold. His desire to plant rocks on my fingers after all these years just makes me want to laugh.

Another Snow Day

Well, it's official. Snow days are all used up. From here on, kids are using up their spring vacation.
What a lovely winter it's been. If you're a polar bear.

Oh. And no sledding for darling daughter today. LOL

I don't know why, but this morning I was dreaming about the brakes failing in my Honda and crashing the car into a brick building. It was very vivid. And then my cell phone wouldn't work so I couldn't call DH. I was hurt and frustrated. But people were helpful. Don't worry, I'm not driving anywhere today. DH took my car with the 4 wheel drive so he could get back up the hill later in the day.

I did some birthday shopping for myself yesterday. Not at a stitching store, because there isn't one closer than a 50-60 minute drive. But at a scrapbooking/rubber stamping store. Now to go find out what I'm supposed to do with Mizuhiki cord.

Listening to Carole King and Louise Goffin sing "Where You Lead."
I hated this song when I was a teenager. Feminist perspective - where you lead, I will follow - just didn't fit me. Who knew I would end up living this? Army says to him - you're going there - and off we go. LOL And I've done it joyfully. Because I like new places, new people, new experiences. And the closer we get to retirement (he's at 19 years this spring), I can't imagine what life will be like without moving. Certain things I am definitely looking forward to - like decorating my own house. The local paint store will love me. I've got 20 years of pent up desires to unleash.

Purchased Josh Groban's "Closer" on Monday. How wonderful is "per te." Wow. Darling daughter prefers him singing in foreign languages, MIL prefers English. I think it depends on my mood. But am leaning towards daughter's opinion.

I guess the entire Superbowl Halftime overexposure of Janet will only mean that the Grammy's will pull the highest ratings in their entire history.

The music industry should just bow to the inevitable. Stop wasting money on marketing. Stop promoting talentless pretty people. Just put the music out there.

So Tired

It is probably just the fact that this winter started early, hit hard, and shows no sign of letting up, but I'm exhausted. If I sit down in the p.m., I fall asleep. Usually just take a 20 minute power nap. But some days I can hardly get motivated to make dinner. Fortunately yesterday I had Superbowl leftovers and just added some quesidillas and broccoli to complete the dinner. I'm tired of being tired.

Superbowl Thoughts

It was a vast right boob conspiracy...

Some European countries right now are going, what is all the fuss about????

I mean, I know the saying is, if you've got it, flaunt it. But I do think this was unnecessary.

Yeah, I do believe this was whole boob flashing was planned. THAT was not an accident I saw.

But the football game was stupendous. Patriots, you guys rock!!!
